Gorilla
  1. The mature (older) male gorilla gets a saddle of white fur on his back and is also called the silverback.
  2. When threatened by intruders, the male hoots loudly. He then beats his chest and throws fruit at them. If they still come closer, he then runs up to them and knocks them down with a massive hand swipe…..make sure you call ahead to let him know you are coming!

Characteristics:

The largest of all the primates, the gorilla looks like a big fluffy monkey with huge arms and a big powerful chest. He has a full head of hair with a shiny black face.

Height:

Gorilla can be just over 1.85 meters or 6ft tall and give meaning to the term “tall, dark and handsome?”

Weight:

The gorilla can weigh up to 210kg. That’s ‘tall, dark, handsome and heavy’! He is about the weight of two big men put together.

Where they live:

Gorilla’s live in Africa in the Afro – Alpine zone. There they have ample room in the bamboo forest and swampy glades.

What they eat:

The Gorilla eats leaves, shoots, bamboo, wild celery, fruits, bark and fungi. They can grow up to 210kg on this diet?
