Giraffe have seven vertebrae in the neck. That’s the same number as any other mammal including you.
Giraffe splays out its front legs to get a drink of water. It can’t just dip its head to get a drink because it’s too tall.
When they are not eating they are chewing on their cud…..that’s what they ate for breakfast and it comes back up from their stomach for a second chew. Yik!

Characteristics:
There are 9 species of giraffe. You can tell what type you are looking at by the big spotted artwork on the body of the giraffe. They have really long necks, big bulging black eyes and very long legs.
Height:
Giraffes are the tallest animals in the world. Measuring up to 4.7 meters (15 ft) tall they could clean the highest windows of a 3 story house. They don’t have hands so they would have to use their tongue!
Weight:
They can weight up to 2000kg or 2 tonnes for an adult……too heavy for your lounge room sofa or dinning chair!
Where they live:
Giraffes live in Africa, around the south of the Sahara and in the very dry Savannah.
What they eat:
The giraffe eats and drinks twice a day. They have breakfast and dinner and miss out on lunch due to the hot middle of the day. They eat leaves from the very tall acacia and mimosa trees and they love to eat wild apricots.
