  3. The mother croc will lay about 20 eggs and bury them on the river bank. She will dig them up when she hears her young hatching.

Animal: Crocodile

Nickname: Croc

Characteristics:

The crocodile has a long and tapered snout which gives them the largest smile out of all land dwelling animals. They are amphibious (can live in and out of water), have long bodies and short legs and they have a really long tail which helps them to swim.

Height:

They can be up to 1 meter (3ft) tall; however these animals can grow up to 7 meters (23ft) long. That’s as long as a mini bus!

Weight:

The croc can weigh up to 1000 kg (1 tonne). That’s as heavy as 12 men!

Where they live:

Australia, America, Egypt, and Africa. They love the river systems; however they also move up and down coastlines.

What they eat:

Just as the lion is on the land, the crocodile is the king of the animals in the water. He will eat any fish or animal who ventures near the water edge where he lives. Don’t go near them or you could also end up being a crocodile lunch!
